Selenium / Cypress / Playwright & API Testing
Apply for this role

Why this role matters

Lab Thread is a fast-growing, engineering-driven Biotech SaaS company building modern software that unifies bioinformatics, automation, and cloud technology to eliminate lab chaos and accelerate discovery. Founded in 2023, we design a next-generation LIMS/ELN platform designed specifically for biologists and the needs of small and mid-sized biotech teams.

As a QA Engineer, you will be a crucial part of ensuring the quality, reliability, and performance of our core platform. Your work will drive innovations that empower scientists worldwide — impact that goes far beyond software, enabling faster drug development and breakthroughs in human health and sustainability.

What you will do

As our QA Engineer, you will be responsible for building a robust testing framework. This role is not about checking boxes — it is about embedding quality into every stage of the development lifecycle while working directly with our engineering team. You will:

  • Design and execute manual and automated test plans for our web platform, APIs, and backend services.
  • Detect, document, and track bugs, collaborating directly with developers for timely resolution.
  • Drive continuous improvement of QA processes and champion a quality-first mindset.
  • Perform regression, functional, and performance testing to ensure product stability.
  • Participate in Scrum meetings to define clear, testable acceptance criteria.

You will have the autonomy to propose solutions, introduce improvements, and influence the technical direction of the platform.

About you

We are looking for a passionate and detail-oriented QA Engineer eager to ensure quality in next-generation software for life-science research labs — someone motivated by solving real-world workflow fragmentation and delivering robust, reliable solutions.

You think analytically, spot inconsistencies others miss, and take ownership of quality. You communicate clearly in both Bulgarian and English with developers and non-technical stakeholders alike, adapt quickly to new tools, and proactively improve processes rather than wait for direction.

Must-haves:

  • 3+ years in manual and automation testing.
  • Strong hands-on experience with test automation frameworks (Selenium, Cypress, Playwright).
  • Solid API testing skills (Insomnia, SoapUI, Postman) and bug-tracking systems expertise (e.g. Jira).
  • Strong knowledge of QA methodologies and best practices.
  • Working knowledge of JavaScript, familiarity with Git, CI/CD, Agile/Scrum methodologies and DevOps practices, as well as tools like JMeter.

Why Lab Thread

Here, your work enables scientists to run experiments, track data, and accelerate discoveries. The quality you ensure will have a direct impact on scientific progress — far beyond abstract business metrics.

We offer:

  • High ownership and autonomy in a small team of exceptional engineers who value and act on QA insights.
  • Visible, real-world impact — the quality of the platform fuels scientific breakthroughs.
  • A clean, modern tech stack — no legacy burdens, no corporate bureaucracy.
  • Fast and meaningful career growth with a clear multi-year roadmap and real opportunities to step into broader responsibilities.
  • Competitive compensation with potential stock options — grow with the company you help build.
  • Open communication culture with direct access to founders and decision-makers.
  • Flexible hours and hybrid work for better focus, balance, and deep work.
  • A culture built on trust, craftsmanship, and transparency — we care about quality, not politics.
  • Influence at every layer — shape quality standards, testing strategy, and the future of the platform.
