Meet the team behind Lab Thread

Ryan attained a DPhil in Virology from Oxford University before founding OXGENE in 2011. The company was initially underpinned by proprietary SnapFast™ plasmid technology, but by the time of its cash-exit in 2021, OXGENE was a recognised provider of technologies and services to accelerate the discovery and development of cell and gene therapies. Ryan co-founded Lab Thread in 2024, and now serves as CEO of the company.

After an M.Eng in Computer Software Engineering, and a postgraduate degree in BioEngineering and Biomedical Engineering, Deyan successfully led and scaled software companies for nearly 30 years. He combines a keen interest in biomedical science with significant experience delivering complex software solutions to solve organizational challenges. Deyan co-founded Lab Thread in 2024, and now serves as CTO of the company.

John is a highly respected and seasoned board veteran with an impressive career in the digital software and healthcare sectors. He has extensive experience in guiding companies through periods of substantial growth. His expertise also extends into the technology sector, with notable board and advisory roles at AI-driven companies such as Mindset AI and Jiva.ai. His leadership has consistently been a catalyst for strategic growth and positive societal impact.

Len is Professor of Gene Therapies at Oxford University, and a leading expert in nucleic acid delivery systems. He founded the British Society for Gene and Cell Therapy in 2003, which he also led for 9 years. He is a co-founder of AkamisBio, OXGENE (sold for $135M, 2021), Theolytics, and the Native Antigen Company (sold for $23.5M, 2019). He has authored >300 peer reviewed papers and raised over $40m in research grant funding.

Darina has 25 years experience in project and product management. She has supported the development and growth of software products for industries spanning genetics & biomanufacturing, education, pharmaceutical, financial, hospitality and legal, two of which resulted in major acquisition exits.

Gavin completed a PhD in Molecular Biology at the University of Leeds, before transitioning into commercial roles within the life sciences industry. Gavin has 15 years experience as a business development leader in synthetic biology and cell and gene therapy.

Sophie completed a PhD in Developmental Biology at University College London, following an undergraduate degree at the University of Cambridge. She has spent 15 years working at the intersection of science and marketing strategy in the life sciences sector.
